Obituary for Richard Wisneski

Richard D. Wisneski, 80, of Leavenworth, KS, died Sunday, May 22, 2022, at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, KS.

Richard was born on August 12, 1941, in Norwich, Connecticut, the youngest son of Blanche (Poreda) and Joseph Wisneski. He graduated from Norwich Free Academy. Richard married Kathleen Schlink on September 3, 1966, who survives of the home. Richard is survived by his brothers Leonard Wisneski and Joseph (Evelyn) Wisneski, children Michele (Ron) Frankl, Jeanne (Travis) Gray, Stephen Wisneski and Jessica Wisneski, and grandchildren Taylor and Jackson, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Barbara Keech.

Richard served in the US Navy from 1962-1965 on the USS Enterprise. He enlisted in the Army in 1975 and retired Sergeant First Class in 1991 after serving in Desert Storm. He attended Manhattan Area Technical College for A/C repair and was Head of Maintenance for Ramada Inn. He then became Transportation Supervisor for Wamego School District until he retired in 2006. Richard loved to bowl, was an avid gardener, a lifetime KSU Wildcats fan, a top-notch guitarist, and an opportunistic political debater. He will be dearly missed.

Visitation will be at Belden Larkin Funeral Home in Leavenworth, KS, on Monday, June 6, 2022, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Graveside services with US Army military honors will be at the Leavenworth National Cemetery at 1:30 pm.
